About Think Resilience

Developed by the Post Carbon Institute (PCI), Think Resilience consists of 22 short videos, (between 7 and 15 minutes long), and explores the interrelated crises of the 21st century, and what we as citizens, students, and community leaders can do to respond to them.

Presented by Richard Heinberg in a simple and straightforward manner Think Resilience will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the complex issues we face, introduce you to systems thinking and resilience science, and give you concrete ideas and strategies for how to engage in building the resilience of your own community.

Current situation in Surf Coast Shire

Many planning issues are coming into play that will greatly influence the future direction of Torquay and the Surf Coast shire municipality. Therefore, focus for Community Action should be:

  • Community Resilience Assessment to ascertain the Surf Coast’s position in relation to the E4 crisis (ecological, energy, economic, equity), plus vulnerabilities for fuel, energy, water, food, sanitation, and medication during times of crisis.
  • Distinctive Area Landscape process which highlights proposed urban sprawl beyond existing permanent town boundaries, height restrictions of developments plus more.
  • Proposed development of Spring Creek reserve and the subsequent protection this locally iconic green wedge deserves.
  • Closure of the Alcoa Coal Mine in Anglesea and the proposed Eden Project.
  • Potential for large scale community renewable energy project for Anglesea residents.
  • Surf Coast Shire Climate Emergency Declaration and what actions are being taken.
