Guide to Solar PV
The Surf Coast Energy Group encourages people who are thinking about installing a solar power system to do their research and ask questions if they are unsure about any details regarding the process of going solar.
Below are a few points to consider:
1. Make sure you are happy with the quality of the components being used, as well as the quality of the install, particularly that the installer is BCSE accredited. It is worthwhile knowing what brand of panels and inverter that are being used, where they are made, warranties available and the history of the manufacturers and installer.
2. Are there any extra costs involved? The meter changeover is generally an extra cost which can be up to $400+GST, tiled, double story and steep rooves can sometimes be extra. Tilt frames for a flat roof, electrical inspections, larger inverters and outdated switchboards can also be extra costs.
3. How much money am I likely to save?
4. What size system is most appropriate for my circumstances?
5. How long will it be until installation? How long does the meter changeover take afterwards?
6. Speak with your electricity retailer. Some of the questions to ask are: If you sign up for the premium feed in tariff (60c+ pkWhr), will my other tariff charges change?
Do you get to keep your off peak tariff?
Will the price I pay for electricity change?
