Tips on making your home more energy efficient and what to do if you rent your home.

Powermate

SCEG has purchased a Powermate which is a great gadget to use to determine how much power a particular appliance uses and costs to run. This is available to borrow through our library system. It will allow you to find out the running cost of an appliance, how much greenhouse gas it is producing and what your appliances are costing you on standby mode. The Powermate can give estimates of hourly, quarterly and
yearly costs. A great way to help identify high power use appliances, save on your electricity bills and reduce your environmental footprint.

Sustainability for Renters

Environment Victoria has put together a free, downloadable guide for renters, full of tips on how to reduce their environmental impact and their bills, without needing a big budget. It includes sections on everything from heating to fridges to food, as well a checklist for people looking for a new place to rent, and an explanation of renting law in Victoria. Renters can’t readily install tanks or solar power, so there has been a big gap in sustainability information which is specific to them. renters guide
