Grow It

Grow It! aims to bring food production and carbon back to where it belongs, the backyard!
The programme is up and running, with the appointment of Patrick Blampied as the Project Officer for 12 months.
Participants will be able to purchase a vegetable box, fully installed and ready-to-grow and be supported by a host of workshops and fun events.
Through Grow It! we hope to provide opportunities for growing food at home and contributing to:
- Reducing carbon emissions in production and transport stage of food.
- Capture carbon by building healthy soil.
- Increase community connectivity by creating a new group of local home food producers.
- Increase community resilience by bringing food closer to the kitchen.

Sustainable Seafood

Snapper, rock lobster, eels, abalone, bream, flathead, garfish, King George whiting and calamari are all sustainable seafood choices for consumers in Victoria as recommended by the DPI. The new video made by the Victorian Seafood Industry Victoria's Sustainable Seafood with chef Neil Perry, is worth watching.

We at Sceg recommend avoiding imported fish, deep sea fish and shark. Make enquiries when purchasing fish as to whether the source is a known sustainable source. We would love to hear about any fresh fish suppliers, restaurants or fish and chip shops who are already supporting sustainable seafood.

Further resources can be found at www.marineconservation.org.au on Sustainable Seafood and many other marine issues such as whaling, the Great Barrier Reef and exhausted oceans. Local information on our own coastline and marine life www.exploreunderwatervictoria.org.au
