Transition Town Torquay
“Creating the world we want is a much more subtle but powerful
mode of operation than destroying the one we don’t want”- Marianne Williamson
Transition towns are a concept that originated in the UK by a chap called Rob Hopkins as a positive and constructive way of addressing the twin issues of Peak Oil And Climate Change. See his Transition Culture blog
It is a way to prepare and adapt for the energy descent we are going to need by Building Resilient Communities.
Why copy this model?
The blueprint, network and tools are there in the form of a handbook (now there is an Australian edition) and a website/wiki, http://transitiontowns.org/ easily accessible and adaptable-thereby saving time by not re-inventing the wheel and with opportunity for our own creativity.
The eventual outcome will be an “Energy Descent Action Plan” with a 15-20 year timescale for our community, which could be a tool for local government.
Our group is very informal. It is not an incorporated association or group which means there are no minutes from meetings or other formal procedings. This allows us to simply follow our passions and not get tied up with the regulatory stuff. Find the latest Transition Town Torquay news here
